The Master (2012)

The Master

A Naval veteran arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future - until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader.

The Buzz: Paul Thomas Anderson will land the first controversial film of the season, followed by the releases of the Bin Laden-hunting Zero Dark Thirty and QT's Django Unchained. Based in part on the foundation of the Church of Scientology, the film serves as the inaugural release from the production company fronted by Megan Ellison, scion of the software king who wants to restore the days of director- and story-driven filmmaking to Hollywood. In fact, it's fair to say the PTA might have moved onto another project if Ellison had not put her considerable oomph behind the script that no one else ultimately wanted to touch.
